Grade 1.2083 ESR
Grade 1.2083 ESR, also known as X40Cr14 ESR, is a high-purity stainless tool steel developed for advanced plastic mould applications requiring superior surface finish and corrosion resistance. The ESR (Electro Slag Remelting) process refines the steel by removing impurities and producing a highly uniform microstructure.
This refined structure makes 1.2083 ESR significantly superior to standard 1.2083, offering better toughness, homogeneity, and polishing performance. It is widely used in high-end mould manufacturing where precision and surface quality are critical.
The grade is available in pre-hardened condition (30–36 HRC) or can be heat treated up to 48–52 HRC depending on application requirements. This flexibility allows manufacturers to balance machinability and hardness based on tooling needs.
With its high chromium content and ultra-clean structure, 1.2083 ESR delivers long tool life, reduced maintenance, and excellent performance in humid, water-cooled, and chemically aggressive environments.
