Grade 1.2085
Grade 1.2085, also known as X33CrS16, is a corrosion-resistant plastic mould steel designed for applications where resistance to rust and low maintenance are critical. With its high chromium content, this steel offers natural corrosion resistance, making it ideal for moulds exposed to moisture, cooling water, and humid environments.
This grade is supplied in a pre-hardened condition of 28–33 HRC, allowing direct machining without the need for additional heat treatment. This helps reduce production time while eliminating the risk of distortion during the hardening process.
1.2085 provides a good balance of machinability and corrosion resistance. Thanks to its optimized sulphur content, it machines better than many stainless tool steels while still maintaining structural stability and consistent hardness during operation.
Due to its reliable performance and reduced maintenance requirements, 1.2085 is widely used in plastic moulding industries, especially where moulds are exposed to aggressive cooling systems or corrosive plastics.
