Grade VR 300

VR 300 is a premium pre-hardened mould steel widely used in the plastic mould industry. It belongs to the same family as 1.2311 steel / 1.2738 steel, but offers improved performance in terms of hardness uniformity, machinability, toughness, and surface finish. Supplied in a pre-hardened condition of approximately 30–33 HRC, it eliminates the need for additional heat treatment, reducing production time and avoiding distortion.

One of the key strengths of VR 300 is its uniform hardness throughout the cross-section, even in large mould blocks. This ensures dimensional stability and consistent performance during operation. Compared to conventional P20 grades, VR 300 provides better reliability for large and complex moulds.

Tool Steel

The material also offers excellent machinability, allowing efficient milling, drilling, EDM, and grinding with reduced tool wear. Its fine and homogeneous microstructure ensures superior polishability and texturing, making it suitable for high-quality surface finish applications such as automotive and consumer products.

Additionally, VR 300 has good toughness and weldability, reducing the risk of cracking and enabling easy repair. It can also be nitrided to achieve surface hardness up to 55–60 HRC, enhancing wear resistance and extending tool life. Overall, VR 300 is an advanced and reliable choice for high-performance mould applications.
